Fizzgigs Community Arts Group presented – a celebration of the granting of the Market Charter – ‘800 Years On: 1221 – 2021.
On Saturday, 10th July there was a street market along Scotland Street (road closed) from 9am to 4pm (as well as the indoor market) with live music from 10 – 11am from members of the Fizzjigs Band.
At 10.30am outside the Market Hall you could step back in time to Medieval Ellesmere where the townsfolk were visited by Llewellyn, Prince of Wales and his good wife Joan, Lady of Wales. Keincaled (alias Tommy), the noble steed of Lady Joan, carried his royal rider as her entourage travelled through the town. The colourful welsh dragon Dylys escaped the eye of his minstrel mistress and hid amongst the English folk. The hopes and fears of the townsfolk were voiced and there were trumpet fanfares to announce the royal visit. Pomp, ceremony and fun!
We also repeated the performance at Criftins Summer Fair at 2p.m. at their Village Hall.
