On Saturdays August 6th and August 13th Fizzgigs will be presenting the stories of canal boatwomen at the Ellesmere Yard, the Canal & River Trust yard, on Birch Road just outside Ellesmere. The four performances, at 12.15pm and 2.15pm each day, explore the lives of five women who lived and worked on the canals using songs, music, humour and drama.
Come and visit the Yard and find out about the lives and traditions of the women who worked on the canal. The venue is easily accessible along the towpath from the wharf near Tesco. Follow the signs! Parking is also available at the yard. It will be advisable to bring an umbrella, parasol or sunhat and some water, looking at the weather forecast!
During the whole of August a large dressed sculpture of a canal woman can be seen on site from the canal bank.
